Fall is meant for comfort – apple picking, cozying up next to the fire watching movies, eating chili and soup, and of course… enjoying your favourite fall wine. While we’re not quite ready to dive into the hearty wines that get us through winter (we’re talking Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Gewurtztraminer), there are some wines we have on our list to indulge in this fall.
Merlot – A Fall Wine Favourite
Savour a glass of our Pelee Merlot (the Cottage Series!). This wine is rich, full bodied and intense. It’s lively and tangy on the palate with savoury herb, pomegranate, red currant and racy red cherry.
Merlot tends to pair nicely with just about any dish you enjoy this fall since it has a softer intensity, medium tannins and low acidity.
Pelee Pairing: Roasted savoury chicken, rich lamb, hearty beef stew with root veggies or vegetarian chili.
Vinedressers Cabernet Sauvignon/ Cabernet Franc
Enjoy this fall or save for fall seasons to come, our Vinedressers Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc blend has hints of cinnamon, touches of currants and oak. This full bodied and firm fall wine is perfect for those hearty fall dishes.
Pelee Pairing: Grilled bison burgers, hearty beef stew or strong cheeses such as blue cheese.
Pinot Noir
The Pelee Island Pinot Noir Reserve VQA is a medium ruby red colour. It’s perfumed with aromas of cherry fruit and vanilla with an underlying note of earth and chocolate.
When you drink this wine, think of sweet red berries, plums, tomatoes and cherries.
It’s the perfect wine for sipping by the fire playing card games and snuggling up on the couch with your favourite blanket.
Pelee Pairing: Grilled tuna, roasted fall veggies, baked pork chops or mushroom risotto.
Lighthouse Riesling VQA
White after labour day? That myth is officially debunked.
Our Lighthouse Riesling is pale straw in colour. It has a fragrant orchard fresh aroma and a delicate peach bouquet. The balance of acidity and residual sugar give the Riesling a good balance with a long aging potential.
Pelee Pairing: Appetizers, seafood, grilled asparagus with roasted potatoes and white meats. Perfect with cheese plates.
Hopping Apple
If apples are your favourite part of fall, indulge in our Hopping Apple – light yellow straw in colour with a fine thread of bubbles.
This drink offers aromas of fresh apple with subtle pear and hops flavour.
Dry, light to medium-bodied with crisp balancing acidity and a refreshingly long and satisfying finish.
Pelee Pairing: Creamy mushroom risotto, or a lentil and vegetable curry.
Fall is officially here and it’s time to swap out those summer wines for some fall wine selections. Any of the options above would be great to pair with fall dishes or festivities – Thanksgiving, turkey, chili, soups, etc. Cheers to another fall season!
