How did you and your partner meet? Anel and I met downtown Windsor on Valentine’s Day. I was 19 and he was 23 at the time. I just happened to bump into him on the dance floor at Revival Social Lounge and the rest is history!
What was the moment you knew they were “the one”? I think we both felt a connection right away and we knew there was something different from our past relationships. Everything seemed to happen so easily and we instantly became best friends.
What did your first date entail? Our first date was dinner at Lorelai’s Bistro (which no longer exists sadly). I think we sat in that booth for hours just talking and laughing. It was very sweet!
Tell us about your proposal. Anel proposed to me in his hometown, Mrkonjic Grad in Bosnia. We just finished a big family dinner with his extended family. Anel sent me to get ice cream with his little cousins so he could run home to get the ring. He told me afterwards that he wasn’t planning on proposing that day but “it just felt right”. Not even 10 seconds after I finish my ice cream, I see Anel down on one knee. Neither of us can remember what he said other than “I love you, will you marry me?”. I was in shock and through all the tears, of course I said YES!! It was such a beautiful moment and sharing it with his family back home made it even more special.
What was your favourite memory about your wedding day? My favourite memory of our wedding day was our first look. I was so nervous all morning leading up to the wedding but as soon as I saw Anel, I immediately felt calm. A close second would be our sunset photos in the vineyard! It was really nice to have a moment away from our reception to soak everything in, just the two of us.
Why did you choose Pelee as your wedding venue? Who doesn’t want a gorgeous winery wedding? We also loved working with Billy and Elie and we knew from the first time meeting with them that we would have a wonderful experience. They are both super knowledgeable and made us feel at ease every step of the way. The delicious food and wine were also a nice bonus!
What is the secret to a happy marriage? Teamwork and a good sense of humour!
